The Government has approved the Concept for the Development of the Natural Gas Vehicle Fuel Market through 2035

The approved Concept is aimed at increasing the number of vehicles running on natural gas vehicle fuel, building modern refuelling and service infrastructure, and improving the environmental situation. The document covers eight segments of vehicles and machinery whose conversion to natural gas vehicle fuel will deliver a tangible economic and environmental effect and will also lead to a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. These are:

• road transport,
• rail transport,
• sea and inland waterway transport,
• agricultural machinery and equipment,
• municipal utility and road-construction machinery,
• specialised equipment intended for operations in quarries and mine workings.

The President has stressed that the use of natural gas vehicle fuel is a priority for our country.

The Concept is based on two scenarios for the development of the natural gas vehicle fuel market in Russia:

• The baseline scenario has been drawn up taking into account external challenges and instability in global energy markets.
• The target scenario envisages more favourable conditions in which the natural gas vehicle fuel market will develop at an accelerated pace.

All these measures will make it possible to expand domestic demand for natural gas, speed up the creation of a new segment of the economy and help improve the environment in cities. This, in turn, will contribute to a further improvement in the quality of life of our citizens.
