Nationwide educational initiative "Russian Engineering School. We Are Engineers!" under way across Russia

Ahead of the Kazan International Electric Power Forum ENERGOPROM, a large-scale educational initiative "Russian Engineering School. We Are Engineers!" is being held nationwide, organised by the Russian Society Znanie together with the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation.

The project runs from 16 to 31 March and covers pupils in grades 7-11 of secondary schools, as well as students of colleges and higher education institutions. Activists of the Movement of the First also take part in the educational events. As part of the initiative, lectures, meetings with industry experts and educational tours of operating fuel and energy facilities are held in the regions of Russia. The programme is designed to acquaint young people with the real work of the power industry and to build interest in engineering professions. Specially for the project, the Znanie Society and the Russian Ministry of Energy have developed a master lecture, delivered to participants by representatives of the relevant ministries, industry experts and staff of power companies. Specialised lectures have also been arranged for students with the participation of the National Research University Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI) and Kazan State Power Engineering University. Participants in the events learn about the development of electric transport, the history of electric vehicles, the principles behind charging infrastructure, and also about modern technologies and the outlook for the electric power industry. Particular attention is given to the practical application of electrical machines and to the operation of highly manoeuvrable combined heat and power plants. The initiative aims to promote Russian engineering education and current scientific achievements, to attract young people to engineering careers in the fuel and energy sector, and to give the rising generation an understanding of the importance of engineering professions for the social and economic development of the country. It is noted that the project is being held for the second year in a row. In 2025, under a similar campaign, pupils were introduced to the structure of the Unified Power System of Russia, to the achievements of the oil and gas, coal and nuclear industries, and to the prospects for hydrogen energy. The "Russian Engineering School. We Are Engineers!" initiative is part of the preparations for the ENERGOPROM 2026 forum, which will take place from 1 to 3 April in Kazan and will become a key venue for discussing the development of the power industry, its technologies and the industry's workforce potential.
